Our tour departs from the hostel lobby at 9AM. After traveling through the beautiful pine forest, you'll arrive at the Grand Canyon Village around 10:30. Our first stop is the historic Bright Angel Lodge, which sits directly on the south rim of the canyon.

The lodge, constructed of log and native stone, was designed by architect Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter. It opened its doors in 1935 and has been housing travelers ever since.

Ok, enough with the history. It's finally time to get your first glimpse of the magnificent, immense, Grand Canyon!

GC winter
WOW, one of the most spectacular views in the world!

Trail smiles
Onward, to the Grandview trail, where you can embark on a 2.5 hour hike below the rim (weather permitting).  You'll experience the Grand Canyon from a different and wonderful perspective! Those who do not wish to hike can relax and take in the view from the top.

*Make sure to have a large water bottle and sturdy shoes for the hike.

Canyon Tower

We complete our day with a stop at the Desert View overlook, home of the watchtower built in 1932. Here you can enjoy a treat from the snack bar, pick up a souvenir from the gift shop and take in your last view of the magnificent canyon.

Sadly, it's time to say good-bye to the Grand Canyon and head east.  We’ll travel through a portion of the Navajo Indian Reservation and the Painted Desert and return to the hostel at approximately 7PM. You’ll be exhausted but satisfied!

Definitely a day to remember!

Don't be fooled by expensive day tours offered from Las Vegas; you'll spend most of your time in a vehicle traveling to the west rim and very little time enjoying the canyon. It's definately worthwile to see the Grand Canyon from the south rim where the views are much more spectacular and there are many different places to stop, hike and explore.

AND...it's only a 1.5 hour drive from Flagstaff!
